Happy Birthday Arby 'n' The Chief!

HAPPY 9th Birthday to Arby 'n' the Chief!

If you start from the pilot episode, the show came out exactly 9 years ago: Jan 7, 2008. So it counts.

Not only is Arby 'n' the Chief a great show that I recommend you watch, the show changed my life, literally. Not only did it provide me hours upon hours of quality content, it most likely changed the direction of my future.

So this is my love letter to Arby 'n' the Chief:

I honestly had no idea what I was going to do when I fully grow up. I had no plans on career choices, hobbies, etc.
I've known about AnC for years now, since 2011, but I watched it as a comedy show, and remember vividly where I was, and how I reacted to the "series finale", which included a lot of tears.

For reasons I still can't explain, it took me until August 2016 to watch episodes 9-15 of season 7. Not sure why, and it will forever baffle in the most confusing way. :/

When I became more mature years later, I rewatched the show, and noticed clever storylines and various writing choices that were unique, and set it apart from many other web series I was watching at the time. Those writing choices made me think, "Hey, why don't I try to write?". Aside from some TERRIBLE fanfics I made in middle school, I have no experience in writing original, fleshed out stories. I decided to make a story loosely based on two minor characters from AnC, Brody and Kyle. For the lack of a better title, I named it 'CyberSpace'. At first, the story did draw many things from ANC, but then as I continued to write, the connections between the story and show became almost nonexistent, and I found myself writing actual character arcs, and acts, and even sequels (which I still might post online). After some experience with writing, I have made up my mind to pursue writing as my main career choice, which I never would've imagined doing earlier.

Even after the stories I referred to earlier, I have been able to come up with a few 'original' ideas I have already tried to write, with a few successful sessions. I take various writing cues from AnC, especially late scenes. There is a chapter from CyberSpace where the main character doesn't speak a single word, and I like that chapter the most for some reason. Maybe it's the descriptive and mindful thoughts of the character, and the situation he is in, that makes the writing process that much more enjoyable for me to write.

This show gave me plenty laughs, cries, and set my career path for my life after school, and even cracked up various family members who have watched it with me whenever I used the living room TV to watch it. So thanks Jon CJG (DigitalPh33r :D) for 9 years of excellence, and even your other shows such as One Life Remaining, and Deus Ex Machina. I appreciate all the things that you refuse to give yourself enough credit for.

Here's to the rest AnC Season 8, and Paulie Frost.

                                                                                                          `        Cheers

Until next time,

-CaptainLansing
